Salutations!

Hello ENG 495 ESM! My name is Evelyn Gomez. This is my last semester here at CSUN! I had most of you in previous classes and it is great to see familiar faces.

Being at CSUN for five years has given me a lot of time to think about becoming a teacher. I came in as an undecided freshman because I heard horror stories from other students about deciding on majors and not being sure which one to pick. I wanted to test the waters first and figure out if English was the major for me. As I expected, I truly found my calling in my English classes. I declared my major on the second semester in my freshman year. Now that I am about to graduate, I find myself filled with different questions, uncertainties, and fears that I did not have before. I realize now that I am close to becoming an English teacher and how important my job is going to be. I am going to impact the lives of many students and all I hope to do is make that impact truly positive.

I think everyone remembers their teachers. Some good memories might surface, while others might be horror stories. I know I had both kinds of teachers in my life. The one that made a particular impact was my 11th grade English teacher. I know she is the one that made me want to be a teacher in the first place. She helped me discover my talents in writing and made me improve. After taking her class, I never had trouble writing a single paper. She taught me methods and skills that I took with me in college. I want to do that for my future students. I want them to rely on the skills they learn in my class and not feel overwhelmed with writing.

I am excited about my future and definitely about this last semester. I am looking forward to this class and learning as much as possible. Thank you for taking your time to read my blog and I hope to get to know you all in class! Have a wonderful semester!

  1. I love your picture with your dog! How cute!

My 11th grade english teacher influenced me to teach as well. I can't wait for the day when a student says that about me! I hope I can be influential to others.
